Johanna teaching Lullaby Yoga at Shakti Fest

Johanna Beekman (E-RYT 500, YACEP Yoga Alliance Certified) has been fascinated by the yoga universe since she attended retreats with Krishna Das and Ram Das as a teenager. But it took a decade before her growing love of yoga and kirtan led her to pursue a yoga teaching credential. Since then she has taught yoga classes at studios and festivals all around the US and online around the world. She has also provided music for yoga classes taught by dozens of other teachers. But she’s probably best known in the yoga world for classes that combine her teaching with her music: Lullaby Yoga.

In Lullaby Yoga, Johanna gently guides participants through a series of deeply relaxing poses while singing and playing soothing songs and chants. Her classes use principles from restorative, therapeutic, and gentle yoga, yoga nidra, and subtle body and breathwork. The music—a blend of original and traditional pieces from a variety of global cultures—facilitates the healing process by providing a luxurious, peaceful space for the mind to rest while the body relaxes, rebalances, and restores itself.

Johanna developed Lullaby Yoga to help her recover from injuries she sustained after being rear-ended by a drunk driver. More than a decade after that accident, Johanna has taught countless Lullaby Yoga classes and workshops at yoga studios, spas, and leading festivals across the country, as well as internationally through online events and festivals. She occasionally leads a heart-opening kirtan followed immediately by an extended Lullaby Yoga cool-down.

And now she’s offering discounted downloadable sessions so people can experience Lullaby Yoga at home—or just about anywhere.

Free Your Soul’s Voice

Johanna Beekman Workshop

Johanna’s exploration of kirtan has led her deep into the world of bhakti yoga—the yoga of love and devotion. Bhakti Yoga includes kirtan, mantra, and other vocal expressions. As she dove deeper into these forms of expression, she was asked by others if she could help them develop their practices. Her response was to develop Free Your Soul’s Voice.

Free Your Soul’s Voice Playshops encourage deep, embodied singing to help individuals and groups recalibrate nervous systems, balance emotions, and move through the world with more confidence. These Playshops are great for public speakers, chanters, teachers, performers, storytellers, and anyone seeking a more intimate relationship with their own authentic voice and being. She offers Free Your Soul’s Voice Playshops—often in tandem with kirtan sessions and/or Lullaby Yoga classes—at festivals, yoga studios, churches, and other venues. She also offers Free Your Soul’s Voice one-on-one sessions online and in person.
